Most of the problems we struggle with in software and leadership aren’t hard problems. They are things we overcomplicate.

Scott Drake

My name is Scott Drake. I've been building things since I was a child. I taught myself computer programming to build a website for my university's student newspaper. Three years later I was working at Microsoft as a software engineer.

In the years since, I've built software and led teams across startups, giant multinationals, education companies, and non-profits.

The pattern I've noticed? The software industry makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. I'm usually the one asking if we really need all this complexity and overhead.

That pragmatic nature makes me a voice of reason in some rooms and a troublemaker in others. I'm okay with that.

I write about software, leadership, and how to simplify complex things.
